One Lovely Blog Award: Seven Facts About Me!

I have been a busy guy lately… Working, helping family, setting up Christmas stuff last minute, hosting Fake Christmas, making my husband gifts, and packing for a seven day trip to Pennsylvania—the state where he’s from! But, whenever I had free time last week, I ruminated and compiled facts here and there in preparation for this post—featuring seven new, somewhat fun, somewhat inane, and somewhat personal facts about myself for your perusal! I was nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by Matt-in-the-Hat, and have been really giving this a good go. Thank you for challenging me again, and making me really think.

Confined within the Mind

Thanksgiving has been quite the double-edged sword this year. It has, unfortunately, kept me away from the computer for over a week, what with all the prep and cleanup. This was the first year we had the holiday at my house, and it turns out a lot is involved… However, this little break has also forced me to think about a lot of things, including the swirling, conflicted emotions and thoughts I have about one of my uncles. He has Alzheimer’s Disease, and the more time I spend with him and help to take care of him, the more I can’t help but question his thoughts, feelings, and actions.

My Epiphany

For the past few years, I have seen myself as almost apprenticing my Nana and her traditions. I help her decorate the graves of numerous family and friends, bake Christmas fruitcakes, prepare the Seven Fish Dinner with selections from her area of Italy, pick out advent calendars, and even learn other family dishes so that I can make them myself. I am speaking of the Thanksgiving and Christmas events because I feel an amplified sense of urgency during the holidays. Continue reading
